Middin helps around 6,000 people with (mild) mental, physical or acquired brain injuries to live their lives to the very best of their abilities. Middin provides care and support through neighbourhood teams, specialist teams and its own sites, with the aim of organising all services as close to the client as possible.
In 2021, based on their strategic agenda, they set themselves the goal of moving completely to the cloud. KVL supported this as a strategic and implementation partner. Starting with the organisation's ambition, we explain the approach we took using our 4 Viability Quadrants.

The data ambition was mapped using our proven Data Strategy Canvas approach. Based on this, a plan was created with the following phases:
- Shared decision making/solution design
- Joint implementation
- Shared assurance / usage & control
Tools
Rijnland chose Azure Native as the underlying technology mainly because of the flexibility (to write and modify code themselves) and the independency to build new data initiatives themselves. Other factors where the the efficiency to manage the intended use cases, and the availability of knowledge and experts in the market.
People
To build a multidisciplinary team, we considered what roles and expertise were really needed. Middin already had a team of data and analytics professionals, but did not have enough full-time employees to carry out the migration on their own. KVL supplemented the team with data professionals from our project staffing and flexible staffing models.
Skills
The first thing we did was to inventory what skills were already present in the team. There was a shortage of senior Azure solution architects, so the technical approach had to be mindful of this. The data experts from KVL who joined the team were specialists in analysis, data engineering and reporting.
Tools
The main conditions for their tool selection were: cloud first, unless..., Microsoft first, unless..., core application, unless..., mobile use, proven technology, unless.... Based on all the requirements and product demos, it became clear that TimeXtender was the best option.
The Result
Within eight months, the complete provisioning of information was migrated and running on the new TimeXtender platform. This made it easy to migrate to the Azure cloud without significant additional work. During the migration, Power Apps was added as capability to the platform, alongside Power BI.
